Matthew has over 30 years experience in operating marine vessels.  He has been a license captain since 2007 and has over 2000 documented sea days.  He holds a USCG 100 Ton Master Captain with Commercial Assistance Towing Endorsement.  He holds an ASA Bareboat Cruising Certificate.  

Matthew provides USCG authorized training for persons seeking OUPV (6 Pack), Master of Vessel and Towing Endorsements as defined by 46 CFR 10.205(I) and 46 CFR 10.209(c)(iii) and is a senior instructor with World Wide Marine Training of Oriental, NC.   

Matthew has owned a variety of vessels and currently owns and operates a 430 Carver CMY motor vessel.   He as operated vessels up to 100’ LOA.,   He has delivery experience from New England to Florida, Gulf of Mexico,  the Hudson River and Erie Canal, Lake Erie, Huron, Michigan and the majority of the Western River System (Mississippi, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, Tenn-Tom, and Cumberland).

Matthew has also worked as a "fill in" captain for charter fishing and diving vessels in Alaska, Florida and the Caribbean.   He provides short-term captain and crew services for owners and operators needing a master or mate on a temporary basis.  


He is actively employed in the Marine Industry as a pilot of the Grafton, IL Excursion boat, Hakuna Matata . as a TowBoatUS tow boat captain with Port Charles Harbor in St. Charles, MO and as an Instructor with Worldwide Marine Training in Oriental, NC.

Matthew has over 25 years of underwater diving experience.  He has been a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Divemaster since 1981, Recreational Scuba Instructor since 2003, and a Technical Scuba Instructor since 2006.   Matthew is certified as a PADI Master Instructor, DSAT TecRec Instructor, and TDI Technical Diving instructor and teaches all levels of scuba from beginning Open Water to Technical Closed Circuit Rebreathers.    Matthew is an Emergency First Responder Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid) and Care for Children instructor and Instructor Trainer.  He is also a Divers Alert Network (DAN) Diving Emergency Management Provider Instructor.

Matthew believes you have to dive what you teach, not just teach diving, as so many instructors do these days.   He has over 2000 logged dives, 400+ to depths in excess of 250 fsw and over 500 logged hours on closed circuit rebreathers.
